September 2020 Update

Dear St. Brigid Families,

I hope that this email finds you and your loved ones safe and healthy. The September reopening is a significant undertaking in light of the complexities brought on by the pandemic. I take great comfort in knowing that as a community, we will continue to work together to ensure a safe and successful return to our school.

I am sure that there are many questions and concerns. Information has been updated on a regular basis regarding the Re-Entry plan, as it becomes available and confirmed by York Region Health in conjunction with the York Catholic District School Board plan.

Students will begin the year with a staggered entry as follows:

  • September 8 and 9, 2020 –  NO SCHOOL– staff will prepare for students
  • Grades 1 – 3:   September 10th and thereafter
  • FDK:                  September 11th and thereafter
  • Grades 7 & 8:   September 14th and thereafter
  • Grades 4 – 6:     September 15th and thereafter

Staff will teach the students about directionality, the routine for the washrooms, entrances and exits; and ease anxieties.

Our students will be in cohorts that would prevent the movement of classes into another class.  Students will be instructed by their homeroom teacher, French Teacher, Junior and Intermediate Music Teacher (theory, no instruments), and Primary classes by a Physical Education Teacher.

In regards to supplies for students, it is recommended that students bring in their own kleenex, a labeled water bottle,  regular/non perfume hand sanitizer (if you wish)- however, hand sanitizer will be available in each classroom,  a labeled pencil case with the following suggested school supplies: pencils, pencil crayons, crayons, markers, glue sticks, scissors, eraser, 30 cm ruler, small sealed handheld pencil sharpener,

Junior and Intermediate supplies also includes: a red and blue pen, binder, highlighter, math set (protractor).

Students, who are required to wear masks, should have a few in their backpacks. They should also have a cloth bag to place their mask in when they go outside for recess.  This bag will be placed in their desks.

Please continue to check your emails regularly for updates and visit ycdsb.ca for further information pertaining to the Re-Entry Plan and FAQs. More information to follow regarding remote learning and first day procedures.

Looking forward to seeing everyone and working together to make our start up as successful and smooth as possible.

Stay safe and God Bless,

Anna Iafrate, Principal
